This is a typical itinerary for this experience.
Stop at: Hotel, Puno port, Taquile Island, Luquina Chico community, Uros Floating Islands, Lake Titicaca and Puno, Peru.
6:30 AM Hotel to Taquile Island
Taquile Island boat ride
Our friendly driver takes you from your hotel in Puno to the port on a 10 – 20 minute ride (depending where it is located).
You’ll traverse the endless blue horizon of Lake Titicaca from Puno to Taquile by a private section covered regular motor boat with panoramic glass windows on a 2 hour 45 minute ride.
This direct boat navigation towards Taquile is conveniently planned to skip the crowds at the floating Islands, along the way you’ll enjoy the view of the two peninsulas standing as a natural boundary between Aymara and Quechua speaking communities.
Here you’ll see and encounter an ancient indigenous community that has learnt how to conserve its original, genuine traditions and Andean political organization throughout the time.
Taquileños to this day continue to live a traditional lifestyle uninterrupted from modernization.
9:30 AM Hiking the knitting Island: Taquile
Taquile Islanders
Your private boat drops you off at the North end of the elongated Taquile Island, where a steady walk along a well-paved path provides time to admire the scenery.
You’ll be delighted with a spectacular view of the Lake, the Mountain range, and Sun Island while your private English speaking tour guide informs you about the local tradition, history and Lake Titicaca’s insight.
Based on your physical condition you’ll reach the Main Square in about 35 min up to 55 minutes walking up.
Following your exploration at the Taquile’s small square and insights, you’ll proceed to walk down to the port through a different route, an effortless path. You’ll descend the stone stairs and gain such great unique views of the Lake in a peaceful and quiet place.
11:30 AM Taquile to Luquina
Meet up again with your boat captain at a different port. You’ll start navigating from Taquile to Luquina community located in the Chucuito peninsula on the way back to Puno.
After 1 hour boat ride, you’ll disembark at Luquina for lunch at one of the many family restaurants where local delicacies such as grilled Trout and Quinoa soup are available.
Your extra effort will be rewarded with a well-deserved lunch. Your guide explains to you about the families and local traditions and legends.
2:30 PM Luquina to Uros floating Islands
Riding a reed boat
When you think your experience can’t get any better you’ll find yourself at the Uros reed floating Islands for a final spectacular sunset experience over Puno hills, on your way back from Luquina to Puno.
The stop-off at Uros floating Islands will be interesting and unique because you’ll learn about the process of building the islands, its maintenance, and history then after enjoy a smooth ride on a typical reed boat around the other islands.
Taquile Island Day Tour ends when the sun is gone, and you’ll make your way back to Puno enjoying the Puno city night light reflected in the lake. Your driver will pick you up on arrival at the port and transfer you to your hotel.
